For my Four final pieces I put together character and landscape design boards with a lot of the drawings I had produced. I put them together to hopefully show progression and each had the same layout, the images getting more developed as you move up the board eventually reaching the final main design.I wanted to show my progression through the project and hopefully the viewer could see how each image developed into the next and how I improved throughout.

I would’ve had the boards look a little more professional or maybe have a small book printed with my designs notes in there, a lot like a concept art book, however this would have cost a lot more. I think the same idea is put across with the way I have presented it, however maybe the addition of more notes would’ve made the idea more readable.

I used The Dragon Age concept art book to inspire these three pieces, which are the three final design sheets for each character. I am really happy with each of these pieces and I am also happy with how much my digital work has improved. I wanted each of these sheets to show the important elements of each character, along with the images I provided a short description of their character and their roles in the story.

Improvement will only come from more experience using digital processes, which from now on I will incorporate within my future projects.

I am really happy with the digital drawing of the sword, I found it extremely hard to depict the texture of metal and the light on the object. However for a simple design I think i did this well and I am starting to prefer working digitally to just by hand. The other images are not as successful as that however I spent a lot less time on those.

Reading up on Narrative Theory and Vladimir Propp’s idea that every Character has a given role. e.g. the hero, the princess, the bad guy, I decided that my evil character would have a predictable look to him and I would focus less on his character and more on his design. These are a few of the first sketches for the King. The top two here were created digitally, I took me a while to even know how to work photoshop, however with more practice I think I will pick it up. I am currently happy with the progress I am making even though I have a lot of improvement to make.

Final Piece- Culture, Taste and Class

For my final piece I combined all the elements I had been exploring and had been inspired by the artists I have looked at. I used watercolour to help give the images a softer feel and the ornate gold frames to enhance the ideas of class and taste, as they have connotations of wealth. I decided to explore how one expensive product or item can have connotations of taste. I am happy with the final piece once it is up on display and viewed as a whole, however individually the pieces are lacking delicacy and are quite rough outcomes. I would’ve loved to explore and create real frames a stead of drawing them, Bur for now they still do the same job in exploring the subject of the brief.

Final Piece- Culture, Taste and Class

Class and style in film

I happened to watch two movies whilst answering this brief, which both explored ideas of class and culture. The Great Gatsby is a classic story of wealth and glamour, change, appearance and acceptance. Baz Luhrmann’s interpretation of the story is cinematically beautiful, with a lot of diamonds and colour. The characters in the story are clear embodiments of styles and class an the film explores the world of the flapper culture in the 1920’s

I also studied the lifestyle of the characters in Les Miserables, particularly those in poverty, their clothing and appearance.

Drawing Project- First studies

The brief we were given was basically to explore our drawing abilities and see how they adapt and progress through experimentation throughout the project. We were given places to study and observe. Three buildings around Huddersfield. I chose two, the train station and the library. The train station because I think its the most aesthetically pleasing out of them all and the library because of the busy atmosphere around it.

I began the project by gathering images and producing quick sketches of the buildings and their occupants. Most of the drawings are fast and inaccurate as they were Created quite quickly and outdoors. I like the drawings on the brown paper because the use of white pencil helps give the structures more form.
