M.C Escher gave me the idea of archways being a liminal structure. They’re representative of entry and passing. They have an eerie quality about them and also a lot do tend to be quite beautiful, especially those on older buildings. In response to this idea I saw a friends drawing of the parish church in Huddersfield and I thought this was a great starting point. I did a quick sketch of the entrance and used watercolour to capture the age of the building. I believe i could have done a better study if it was in pencils of pastels.
